Actually I have seen software telling specific requirements for what MHz
PC to Use and which version of Windows to use. I go to OfficeMax right
often. Software tells what minimum speed, and which operating systems
they will run on.

In some cases they have specifactions for both Mac and PC Platforms.

The reason for specifications show specific models on software for Mac
is that for years they used a CISC Processor 680xx series
(00,10,20,30,40), Then went to a RISC Processor Chip (6100,7100,8100
series up until they started using G3, G4, G? series) . Because the
differences between the CISC and RISC Chips were so different OS's had
to be rewritten to take into account the differences.

That's little different than the Chip designations for Machines using
Processors Prior to Pentium and from Pentium to this point. The
difference is that If you put a 700 mhz Pentium III (or IV) in a
Computer it runs the same on a Compac, a Hewlet Packard, a Dell, a
Gateway, a IBM, Etc, Etc. A Gray Box is a Gray box.
