I put Mozilla under /usr/local/mozilla, so I could just do
mv /usr/local/mozilla /usr/local/mozillaold
Then you can untar the new one to go in its place.
If you don't want to keep it, then you can just do
rm -rf /usr/local/mozilla (carefull with that command though ;) )
You can also do this with Konqueror, or whatever as you file manager.
