I went over to .performance, curious to see if this was in fact the
case. To save people the trouble, here's a summary of what I found:

JTK: Don't pre-load DLLs, that'll waste memory. You need to dump XUL,
that's what is making Mozilla take so long to start.
Coders: No, it's not. We've done tests, and XUL has a negligible effect
         on start-up time.
JTK: Mozilla takes ages to start! It's XUL's fault!
Coders: Do you have profiling data?
JTK: Yes, look. I timed the startup with my stopwatch and compared it
to a completely different program. It's got to be XUL.
Coders: No, it's not. Look at the profiling data.
JTK: Yes it is! I timed it with my stopwatch and everything!
Coders: We profiled the code. We know where every second is being
spent. Mozilla is loading slower than K-Meleon because Mozilla
has significantly more features than K-Meleon.
JTK: No! It must be XUL! Really!

Hope this helps,

Charles Miller
