Well, the minimum processor requirement for Mozilla is a Pentium-233.

You say you have a "Cyrix 166", which I'm guessing is the Cyrix 6x86
P166+. This is really a 133Mhz processor with a few architectural
advantages over the Pentiums of the day, and optimised so that it
performs as well as a Pentium 166 on certain Windows benchmarks. Outside
of Windows benchmarks (which aren't much of a help when you're running
Linux) it's closer to the speed of a Pentium 150 in general, and a
Pentium 90 in floating-point operations.

So you're already about 35% CPU power behind the minimum.

I'm writing this in the June 15th nightly build on an AMD K6-300 (RedHat
7). The composer has some noticeable delays, and for that reason I'd not
recommend it because it does jar a bit to watch the text having to catch
up with your typing. That said, it _does_ catch up and I'm a pretty fast
typer. I certainly don't see the cumulative effect you're talking about.
HTML form textareas don't have any typing delay at all, and this was
editing a textarea containing more text than this usenet post.
