For someone who knows sooooo much about mozilla, you're remarkably
clueless as to how to actually *use* it.
Try View -> My Sidebar
It *does* disappear completely when disabled - it just *also* has a
"mostly-disabled" mode where it takes up minimal space but is still easy
to pop open for those of us (myself included) who actually *do* like it,
but not all the time.
