This is plain wrong. Turning off the sidebar in browser (what ian was 
talking about) has zero impact on the sidebar in mail-news. And turning 
off the sidebar in mailnews has zero impact on the accounts or folders 
in the account pane.

I understand that you have a serious problem with Mozilla mail-news and

 want badly to have the 4.x location dropdown feature added to Mozilla 

but please don't confuse other unrelated issues because of this desire. 

The sidebar has nothing to do with your complaint.
