I don't know in which state/country you are but you can get 128 megs for
$24.99 and 256 megs for $44.99 from http://www.tigerdirect.com. I always
buy from them and I have never been disatisfied. They have next day
delivery for $9.99.
You have never seen a computer system for less than $1600? Wow. I don't
remember when was the last time i saw a computer for that amount of
money. LOL
Staples has them for MUCH less than that. Check tigerdirect.com and you
will get great offers there (they have Gateway 800mHz/128 megs of RAM,
DVD for $400) ... BTW I don't work for them
