Your own message is a perfect counter example. Until I scrolled down, I 
didn't even know you were replying to my post, much less what my post

Actually, I saw an RFE a day or two ago to have Mozilla chopping off old 
signatures from replied-to text, and there's a strong case to be made 
for that--yet what you're proposing screws it up completely.
