Agreed, I'll think of something more effective - like ignoring JTK.
BTW, i think it takes too much *wasted* time to respond to obviously
inflamatory and malicious comments by JTK.
I just thought of something more efective:
Even if we are a "free speech" supporting newsgroup, there must be
limits to how tolerant we as a "society" can be towards obviously
desruptive forces. Do we not put unruly children to bed early? Do we not
put criminals in confinement for a given time? Punishment for
deliberately destructive behahious is (unfortunately) a necessary part
of our culture. If certain persons in our society choose to act in a
destructive way, then society must protect itself from these destructive
elements. There are limits, after all. We do not live in an anarchy.
Every society has these protective safeguards to protect the well-being
of its members (in this case the mozilla users, developers and the
project itself).
JTK has repeatedly disrupted this newsgroup, and has shown not
inclunation of ceising this activity, despite repeated attempts by many
members. He has not contributed anything to this project other that the
mild and fleeting entertainment value of one who acts as a "class
clown". He is keeping all of us from the business at hand, and, more
importantly, potentially causing unjustified doubt by casual passers-by.
After much thought, and with regret (because this is a last resort
solution), I therefore suggest and request that JTK be banned from this
newsgroup for a period of 3 months.
