For the same reason you can't buy a Compaq/Dell/etc. without Windows and
other crap installed. Or even get Windows without added programs
pre-installed. Corporations are in the business of making money. They do
this by forging relationships that add to their bottom line.
Does Dell care that you already have an old Windows95 disk and you'd
rather use it than get your new laptop with WinME on it? No, they're
putting ME on there, and if you don't like it, you can go build your own
laptop.
I'm not trying to flame, I'm just pointing out the nature of business:
making money, not customer satisfaction.
