It might be a better idea to bundle the Netscape installer with ICQ and
AIM than only include AIM and ICQ with Netscape. This would (in my mind
offer greater exposure) or I suppose one could make AIM a net download, 
just like NS, and make AIM-ICQ-NS one big net installer (using the same 
installer for all three apps). But not forcing users to install NS to 
get the other options.

Well I must admit I stopped using netscape4.7x before AIM was bundled 
with NS... and then the version that shipped with NS was an older 
version of AIM.

Personally I think AIM well get fewer new users and fewer people will 
update AIM (the install base will not shirnk). I just don't see how 
forcing users to use netscape in order to download AIM would benfit 
AOL-Netscape/Time-Warrner.
