Oops! My mistake, I'm VERY sorry - somehow, I had uninstalled
the Java Plug-in, yet had the JDK/JRE hanging around.

I have been able to rectify the problem without having
to reinstall everything. Here's how:

1. I have JDK1.3 installed in D:\JDK1_3. The sub-folder
"jre\bin" within this contains the np*.dll as well as
   the "plugincpl.cpl" Control Panel applet.

2. I first created the registry key (using regedit):

       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3

3. I then created a String value within this key named
"JavaHome" and containing the value "d:\JDK1_3\jre"
(the path to the JRE essentially).

4. I copied the np*.dll files from D:\JDK1_3\jre\bin to
   my Mozilla Plugins folder.

5. I copied the "plugincpl.cpl" file from D:\JDK1_3\jre\bin
   to Windoze system32 folder.

And that's all! All my applets now work properly!

And the cool thing is that Netscape 4.78 also works with
the Java plug-in (after copying the np*.dll files into
the Netscape Plugins folder)!!

Thanks to all of you for your help and I apologise again
for something that was a very silly mistake.

Ranjit.
