Web designers *won't*. They aren't going to try and convert users or
convince users. They look at their webserver stats and decide who to
optimize/design their site for. They do it for the majority...

You're right about that part about not knowing they have a choice. Their
O/S comes with a web browser already installed. No need to go download
something different. This pre-installed browser works for the majority
of sites they visit. When it doesn't work right with a site, they think
"that's a pretty messed-up website'. They don't notice or *care* about
that little disclaimer about 'This website works best with mozilla
and/or Netscape 6'.
My point again is that users - the average people like your parents,
children, co-workers, etc - don't give a rat's ass about 'standards'.
They want something that works with the sites they frequent now.
I do want mozilla to succeed and be a top-notch web browser. I use Linux
so I don't have much choice. My current browser of choice is Opera too.
Mozilla is still to sluggish for me. Yes, my machine is older - it's got
an AMD 450 with 128mb RAM. Don't tell me I need a more powerful machine
to run *a web browser* !! And no, I'm not running mozilla v0.8.x either.
I'm actually running a cvs version, packaged for Debian. It's version is
this: 0.0.20010914.10.trunk-1. 'About mozilla' tells me it's 0.9.4+.
