JTK, you know nothing of the history of this. There was only one
strategic mistake by Netscape that caused serious problems. Netscape did
not realize in time the significance of bundling by Microsoft. In other
words, they did not correctly estimate when browser revenue would
disappear by about one or two quarters. They established Netcenter but
it did not generate compensating revenue in time. The slip of just a
couple of quarters in transitioning revenue created the problem and at
the same time created the solution. The rapidly growing revenue of
Netcenter made Netscape desirable to AOL. However, the revenue loss due
to Microsoft bundling (illegal no matter how you look at it) is likely
nearly a billion (they will probably only be able to recover revenue
loss during the business transition to Netcenter).

You are pretty green about business and you really don't have a clue
about what happened
