Almost _any_ software that a regular user needs, except real-time video (MPEG4/divx) encoding, _should_ fly on a PC like yours. There's something fundamentally wrong with the browser if it's the bottleneck on a PC with e.g. a 500 MHz CPU and 128 MB RAM, or even 300 MHz and 64 MB if your're not using Windoze XP, ME or 2000. (Unless you have a 10 Mbit/s internet connection...)
