Let's not forget a major disadvantage of PNG: it doesn't do anymation.
That's what MNG (Multi-image PNG) was made for, which is not widely
supported (Mozilla now does it, but I doubt many other browsers and much
other image manipulation software support it) yet though. There's also
JNG, by the way, which is kind of a PNG format with compression
techniques similar to JPEG. I think Mozilla now does that too.
