Nope. At least not that I can tell. I get two numbers there. Most the time on this particular newsgroup I get a number in the 40,000's (40033 right now). That number doesn't automatically update. Then sometimes I see a much lower number (around 9000 for this newsgroup) that shows up sometimes (when I switch between newsgroups, I have to be "doing stuff" for it to show up), but it's not the "default" so I can't tell if it's auto-updating or not.
