"Strict mode" refers to Mozilla's strict standards compliance layout mode, as opposed to the backwards-compatible quirks mode. Some HTML Transitional DOCTYPEs trigger strict layout mode. http://mozilla.org/docs/web-developer/quirks/ /Jonas
