Exactly. Good software do not conflict with drivers. If out of say 100 crashes, developers noticed that 90 of these are on computers with a certain driver? Then this means Moz is at fault. The developers then have to fix Mozilla to make it compatible with this driver. By the way, MS does not make the drivers. The maker of the hardware makes their drivers. MS distributes drivers from various vendors as part of the Windows package. > That's the point. Why should I give Mozilla the right to gather > information about my computer not needed to evaluate a crash of only > Mozilla? Because Mozilla may have crashed because of incompatibility with a certain device driver. > Mozilla is still a software. Information about what happened to > Mozilla is enough. No. We may know what happened to Mozilla, but if we don't know the environment it happened in, it's pretty useless. For example, "Mozilla crashed when Ok button is pressed in prefs window" gives the developers no helpful information at all. They know it crashed, but how will they fix it if they do not know the cause of the crash? On the other hand, "Mozilla crashed when Ok button is pressed in prefs window in Windows 98 with 32 megs of RAM on a Pentium 166 with the following device drivers running..." would give developers more information on what may have caused the crash. > My computer name has nothing to do with it. Oh yes it does. Someone already pointed this out in another post. Personal comments: I can tell that you are not a programmer. You have no idea at all what sort of information programmers need to fix their programs. Being a beta tester is entirely optional. If you are unwilling to help then you don't have to.
