A comparison of Win98SE running IE, and Win98SE after removing
IE shows that IE is clearly tying up some memory even when
you're not using IE.
All Kyle has observed is the obvious: IE uses EVEN MORE memory
once it's running, as one would expect. You see the exact same
behavior in Mozilla Quicklaunch.
And of course, this has all been documented before - there was a
lot of discussion about how Quicklaunch would tie up some
memory, which is why it's an OPTION. MicroSoft doesn't give you
that option in Windows; they ram IE right down your throat, like
it or not.
Some of us don't like it at all.
