Hmmm
unfortunately i tested this only with Mozilla0.9.3 and NS6.1 and everything seems to 
work fine
but now i tryed with Nightly and it crashes as you mentioned.
I don't know any bugs for the jar protocol but you can try to search in bugzilla.
