Yes, we changed the way we render <input type="text"> in standards mode since 1.2.1. The behavior in 1.2.1 is the "quirky" behavior for both inputs; in 1.3 only the <select> is quirky.
just for the record here there's the same page with 1.3b.

result: now select looks ugly and with 1.3b i cannot style it as i did with 1.2.
boris, i respect your work and the other folks at mozilla,
but IMO this is wrong decision. what's the reasoning behind this? if
IE sucks at style <select>'s has mozilla to do the same? if no width is specified for the select then go for autosize, but when width is given
please honor it (at least in standards mode!).
is there a bug for this? i would like to comment on it.
