however I can't get anyone to reply.

Er... didn't I reply to your mail about this bug, suggesting some people who may know the code whom you should try asking for review? I certainly seem to have that mail in my "sent" folder.....

Yes I have received replies from a couple of people (yourself included - thankyou) who said they weren't the right people and suggested others. On contacting those others I haven't received replies. I know I sound like a whiner and I don't like sounding like one, however I have become somewhat frustrated with the development process.

My company is using Mozilla as an XP platform for our machine translation system (e.g. babelfish). As a bit of payback to the Mozilla project I am quite happy to potter around in bugzilla/the source and fix the odd bug. As I do this during work time I tend to only pick off the low hanging fruit that doesn't take too much time, but it can still take up to a day to investigate, fix and test.

Just waiting for a review for a long time is pretty discouraging in itself. Furthermore, having the patch bitrot during that time however is very discouraging. No one likes to have to revisit a perfectly good patch simply because it took too long to get a review and the patch has now bitrotted. Missing a development cycle because the patch didn't get reviewed is discouraging. etc

This patch hasn't yet bitrotted, it hasn't even been sitting for weeks on end, however I am aware that every day it sits waiting for a review it gets closer to being included in the "lost patches" of bugzilla and bitrotted to death.

Regards,
Brodie
