Is it a bug?  I thought it was just something I didn't know, rather than 
something that was broken.

It looks like I'm just going to get in a cycle of "no, don't ask us, ask 
/them/".  The DOM folks can say that it's not their issue since there's no 
DOM event that will do what I need.  The Layout folks can do just the 
opposite what's happening here and say they only deal with layout, not the 
Javascript side of things.

Nonetheless, there's somewhere the JS Engine and the Layout engine meet, 
and that's the bit I wanted to find out about.

But I think I'll give up before I annoy even more people.  I'll stick with 
things being broken in Mozilla because that's easier than trying to find 
out how to fix it.
