pref.js file

Tonight I tried to use my browser (Netscape 4.7) and I received a
message the pref.js file was missing.  I had to re-enter my preferences
but now, everytime I close and re-open Netscape, that same file is
missing again and I have to put in the same information over again.

Can anyone offer help as to how I can get this to stick so I dont have
to re-type all the time?
