Hi,

I really like the html mail feature. It greatly enhances the richness of
the e-mail experience.

Sadly this feature can easily be misused by spammers. By sending html
mail with embeded pictures they can verify the existence of a user. The
url of an embeded picture (or sound, or frame,...) need only contain
some unique id which the spammer can correlate to the e-mail. For
example a spammer could send me an html e-mail with a link of the form
http://www.spammer.com/empty_pic/hjs/best.com

It does not seem possible to read e-mail carefully in mozilla. By this I
mean reading it so that it does not generate any internet traffic at
all. It is not even possible to delete an e-mail without its content
first being downloaded and interpreted. As a result I have to resort to
pine to first delete my daily spam before I can use mozilla to read my
mail. I fear that if I do not do this, I will only be tempting spammers
to send me more unsollicited e-mail.

Could someone add an option to the e-mail reader only, so that it can
display e-mail without generating any network connections, but prompt
the user when such content is available. Usually the title of an e-mail,
and the little text available is enough to tell a fake e-mail from an
honest one. There must be a clever GUI way of doing this, that would not
be too cumbersome.

I know there are a couple of bugs reported on this issue, and I would
not be surprised if this has generated some discussion before on this
group allready.

        sincerely,

                Henry
