Thanks. That helps. This solution is not intuitively easy to come by, 
but I am happy to use it.

How can this be done? I tried to find it but it was not easy.
Perhaps right clicking on a message should present the following two 
aditional entries:
        - secure download message
        - view source
Perhaps in the same section as "Open message in new window".

Changing a setting for "download mail securily always" in the mail 
preferences section would set the default to secure and replace the
"secure dowload" menue entry to "full download" menu entry.

The posting on that bug report were so long that in the end I could not 
judge what the outcome of all the argument had been. I was not sure 
whether my question was a bug report a request for enhacement or a 
documentation request.
