why not groups in the addressbook?

I just wondered:
why aren't there support for groups in the addressbook?

I'm not talking about mailing lists. I'd just like to be able to
categorize people into groups. Groups like: "Friends", "Work", "Family",
"Soccer", etc.

Currently this is not possible, but I just wondered if anybody other
than me thought this was a good idea.
