0.9 does not remember my window settings

I have an issue with 0.9 mail and news.  I do not like to have the
Sidebar and the message window so I turn them off via the View menu
but every time I restart mail and news I have to turn them off again.

Also, mail/news does not remember where I put the dividing bar between
showing the messages and which group and folder I am in.

Has anyone else seen these?  More importantly, how do I make it remember
my settings?
