Reply Word Wrap

In e-mail, I automatically quote the original message and reply above the message.

I've played with my settings, but when I reply, the differences in the word wrap 
settings between the two messages
creates some odd looking spacing.  One word on a line -- full sentence on the next, 
etc.

Does anyone know what default setting I could use to eliminate this, or would replying 
below the incoming message
eliminate the problem?
