Yes, this caused a bit of a panic for me at first, especially since some 
of the emails had just been downloaded and were important. But I tried a 
couple of different things and found that deleting the Inbox.msf and 
restarting Mozilla was all that was needed. Not exactly a desirable 
feature, though.
