I find that, of the three panes in the mail-news client, the one I often
need to be the full width of the application is the Messages list pane.
The Vertical height of the Folders pane is not as important to me as
having more width for my messages, to view the time, subject, timestamp,
line count... all without having to adjust column widths to do away
with elipsis.
So, an additional three pane view with MESSAGES full width across the
"top row", with the FOLDERS and MESSAGE VIEW in two columns, sharing the
"second row".
...or, make dockable windows out of them all.
