Hmm, I think bug 58277 would be an easy thing to fix and perhaps one 
thing which annoys lots of mailnews users.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] NEW state of sidebar-panel-splitter doesn't persist

you always have to click away the "normal" sidebar contents in three 
pane view because of that bug...
