Ok, I fixed my problem, but I'm still confused.  I deleted the following 
line from prefs.js:

user_pref("mail.smtpserver.smtp2.redirector_type", "aol");

What is this and how in hell did it get here?  Could this be related to 
the fact that I tried exim first and then postfix?
