Unless you have downloaded messages for offline readers, the
only thing in the summary files for news are your group
preferences.

With Netscape 6 closed, FIND and delete "*.msf" files, and see
if this restores your ability to read messages on your news
groups.
Have you tried copying "news.rc"from NC4.xx to N6? That's where
the tally of messages is kept, and it can be moved from one news
client to another (in most cases). This will subscribe you to
all the active newsgroups that you had.
Also, in the Navigator location window, type news://(newsgroup
name) and it will subscribe you to that group and open it if
it's on your default server.

Well, all your news messages are still there in Communicator,
just run it. All N6 does during Import is to copy your old
profile into the new program - it leaves everything in your old
Communicator profile alone. You can run both programs side by
side.
