Need help with newsgroups download

Hope this is right group.

New to Netscape.  Using 4.7

Is there a way to limit number of messages downloaded when viewing
newsgroups?
Like last 500 or 200 etc.?

When I click on a newsgroup it downloads thousands of them going back to
early 2001.
