Just to finish this question:
The problem that I described, along
with a problem where I could not
access many other newsgroups without
x-posting to this one, was because I
was using the insecure [sic] server.
When I subscribed using the secure
server, as Mr. Jahn suggested in a
nearby thread, then I could find the
appropriate newsgroups and post with
the reader available to me.
