Mail window pane sizing is a bug. Some people have problems with it, 
others don't. What it does to me is if I open minimized it is all 
screwed up, but when I maximize the window it returns to where I like 
it. If you ever get it to stay where you like it, never touch it again. 
At least that's what I do.
