I accepted it as a figure of speech, but for fun, I thought I'd check.
I have a (mostly) complete archive (sub'd via email) of the group going
back through 2/17/99. Out of 13,350 messages, 156 have "spell" in the
subject. Nearly all of which (subject lines at least, I didn't read all
the bodies) are in reference to a spell checker.
Disclaimer: Since some aren't constructive (e.g. this one) the numbers
don't really mean much :)
