First try this, you can safely delete all .msf files in your mailbox, they are only indexes (Message Summary Files) and they will be rebuilt. This usually solves the problem. If I am to base from your headers you are using Netscape 6.1 which is based on Mozilla 0.9.2, maybe you can try 0.9.5 or even the latest nightly maybe 10/23 or the second build of 10/24.
