Juan-

FYI for others who might benefit from this:
Regarding my main problem of lock-ups while trying to exit mail reader,
by trail and error (and many 'kill -9's) I found a work-around.
There is evidently some permission problem with the "Trash" folder on
my (IMAP) email account. Before I figured that out I had selected the option

Mail & Newsgroups Accounts Settings -> Server Settings->
  * Empty Trash on Exit

While exiting, since it could not empty the trash, NS locked up.
This is an obvious BUG. It should instead prompt with an explicit message
about a problem accessing the Trash, and then exit anyway, not lock up
everything. But the work-around of de-selecting this option is certainly
workable in the mean time.

No, I didn't try that (because it was not necessary on previous NS versions).
After reading the Netscape 6.2 help about the new security and privacy
features, I am concerned that if NS stores my username/password login info
for Web sites on my disk, this implies that if my computer is ever stolen
or hacked into, the culprit could fire up NS and gain access to my accounts
on various Web sites (such as my bank account).

NS/Mozilla developers must have thought of these security issues and built in

protections, but the menus and help screens do not make details clear
and usage of the password encryption option seems complex.

Where can I learn how this password memory stuff actually works

in a secure fashion (a Web page reference)?

To clarify, all I really want is to have NS remember the account
username/password for my ISP after typing it in *once per NS session*.

That is different from having NS store login info for Web sites.

This worked great.

This line was not in my default prefs.js file.
If it were I might have been able to figure this out. Also,
all of the options that are in prefs.js are clearly not accessible from
the Edit->Preferences menu. Where is up-to-date documentation
for all of these option? A Google search brings up
http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/deploymt/jsprefs.htm
and some others, but they lack mail.server.default so are
obviously incomplete.

Thank you very much for your help. Much appreciated.
I'm now a 6.2 convert! Bye bye 4.7...
