make sure you have a outbound mail server info in there.. you need to go to outbound server > advanced button - make sure you have one.. also make sure your local folders exist.. you can change those directories by using the local directory string .. then under copies tab choose the correct local or other folder you have created, make sure they are not read only folders either.. when refering to accounts.. first you have a profile. in each profile you can have an imap, pop3, or newgroup account.. and multiple of each, you only need one newsgroup account. You can delete them all by using Edit > mail and news account settings > remove button while highlighting the account in the account pref panel. We using really write instructions based on the wording in mozilla/netscape itself.. so if you read what I said you should be able to get things figured out.
