I am currently using Netscape 6.2 with a dual boot. I use it in both
the Mandrake Linux 8.1 and Win98 Os's. In fact my main motivation for
doing this is that I can thus keep my past sevaral years of mail history
and folders. In the past, I have been able to do this to some extent
with Netscape 4.x but here the mail folder naming convention, while
similar in the two Os's, is not identical. I can move my mail from one
system to the other with some effort but it is not automatic (I could
probably write a script to do this if I were more experienced).

In Netscape 6.2 the situation looks more promising. In windows the
Netscape 6.2 application stores the mail by default in:
  "Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\<user name>\<codded
directory name>..."

In Linux the mail is of course in "Home/<user>/.mozilla/<codded
directory name>..."

After these paths, the contents appear to be the same so if I could get
both installs (Mdk and Win9x) to use the same path I think I could share
my e-mail folder until I become completely comfortable with Linux and no
longer return to Win9x for various purposes. Obviously, this would have
to be on my Fat partition since Linux can read it and Windows cannot
read the Ext3 in Linux.

However, it is this coded directory name that is the problem. This
appears to be installation specific. In fact two different installation
on the same OS will have different coded names. I have tried to figure
this code out but with no success. If I try pointing netscape at a
different folder it does not seem to work. It seems odd that netscape
(mozilla) would hide this dat. Perhaps I a missing something. The
stuff inside these folder does not appear to be encrypted.

So my question is, Does anybody know what gives here. Does anybody with
Mozilla experience recognize this situation (I do not know if Mozilla
handles mail like NS 6.2) Any ides where I could get this information.
A contact at NS or Mozilla perhaps.

Thanks,

Kim
