Hey John,

First off, n.p.m.mail-news is a Mozilla <http://www.mozilla.org/> news
group. You probably want to go to <http://home.netscape.com/> to find
the correct groups for Netscape browser support.

These messages do what their subject says - they store internal data
about the folders on your mail server. They are used by the uw-imap
server and perhaps others. This IMAP server is useful because it can be
used as a drop-in replacement for a POP3 server, but is annoying because
it litters your mailbox with these control messages.

I *very seriously* recommend that you *do not* delete those messages.
The mail server depends on their existance to function properly.

The reason why you can't delete the last one is because most likely it
describes the internal state of your inbox, and gets locked by the mail
server when you access it. It may well be disasterous if you manage to
sucessfully delete it.

The best thing for you to to is to contact the people who run your mail
server and get them to upgrade to a less intrusive IMAP server - Cyrus
is a good example. That way, these control messages will go away and
everyone will be happy.

HTH,
Mike.
