     Odd thing: First time I ran across this convention, it wasn't in reference to 
HTML _at all_. Instead, it was in a PBeM (Play By eMail) game where the three had 
completely different meanings from the formatting they perform in Word and now 
Mozilla. Just a comment and observation that yes, people do use these for other 
reasons.
