I read all of the messages in the thread before my first reply.

While it's certainly possible to assume in this context that "Why?"
is a judgmental question, it seems equally possible to assume the
person posing the question - "Why?" - is merely seeking additional
information in the hope of providing an alternative approach.

I assume you have a more rational reason for not wanting to use
a dummy account than the one you've given - "Because I'm a control
freaq and it just bugs me. No reasonable reason, just personal
quirks." Had you provided such an answer, it's possible that
Michael would have answered that with something like - 'No, there
isn't a pref for setting a different From: address. However, you
could <...> This sets up a dummy account, but avoids <reason you didn't
want a dummy account goes here>'

While it's true that Michael might possibly have replaced his
initial "Why?" with something like - 'If you don't want to have
a dummy account because <guess goes here>, then you could <...>
This sets up a dummy account, but avoids <guess goes here>'

Of course there is no telling how many reasonable guesses Michael
might be able to make about your reasons for not wanting a dummy
account. Are you expecting him to guess? You're the one seeking
pro bono help. Why do you assume the solicitation of additional
information is judgmental?
