On 21 Aug 2002, it is alleged that joe sauntered in to 
netscape.public.mozilla.mail-news and loudly proclaimed:

Let's guess:  prefs.js has been reset to its default values, right?  If so -
- and assuming you have no back-up of it kicking around -- , you're pretty 
much gonna have to recreate each account and monkey a bit with your 
mailboxes to get it all back up and running.

This has come up some detail in the first two user groups listed below.
