I seem to recall (it's been a while) that the 4.x and 5.x versions of rc
were arbitrarily different enough to be a real pain. The 4.x versions
had some hard-coded 16-bit limits that made them hard to use in large
projects, and the 5.x versions (which at least were 32-bit) were not widely
used, had some compatability problems, and some dot-zero version bugs.
I'd still advise choosing a particular version and sticking with it.
