After several remigrations starting fresh, it appears the way to break the navigation buttons and history is to close "my sidebar" and/or make preference changes on first open after migrating to a profile that opens a blank browser window, and *not* open any page prior to changing prefs and/or turning off "my sidebar". There remains a minor(?) back button/history glitch. My "home" button loads a local copy of my web site's home page. This page redirects after 11 seconds. With 0.9, after the redirect takes place, the back button remains greyed out.
