I'd say that final ZIP file size isn't really an issue.  People tend to expect
bigger ZIPs than before and it's a one-time problem.

Now a load-time improvement is good news!  That's a visibile improvement you'd see
every time you start the code.  If it makes a difference there, try to go for it.

Is this a manual process to apply?  Could this not be worked into the makefile?
